These photos were given to me by my grandfather, Otis Franklin Swann, in 1986. Some of the photos, well over 100 years in age, originally belonged to Julia Swann Mahone and were given to my grandfather by her grandson, Otis Hammock. Some were his. I have attempted to make a permanent record of these photos for future generations. Since they are so old, they are fading and becoming brittle. Some have a form of mildew on them that was caused by improper storage through the years. You can see these little "spots" in the scanned images. The original photos must be kept in a controlled atmosphere in archival safe containers. Humidity and light are their worst enemies.
I have identified all the individuals I could (either from personal knowledge or as actually identified on the photos). You will note there are many who have not been identified. If you can identify any of these unidentified individuals, please furnish that information to me.
It is my feelings that these photos belong to the family. “The family” is anyone who is related to the Harper and Swann families contained herein. I think I was blessed to have the opportunity to document the images of our ancestors for generations to come. Hopefully, they disk will be enjoyed by all who use it as much as I enjoyed creating it.
If any who view these photos have additional photos they would like to add to this collection and share with the family, I will be more than happy to include them. Either allow me to scan your photos and return them to you, or furnish a scanned .jpg (preferably 600 dpi but 300 dpi minimum) image to me for inclusion.
Since you can't zoom in on the listing, I have added two columns here: The first column corresponds with the Photo No. column and the next with the Identification of persons in the photo. If you would like copies of any of the following and/or a copy of the Index, leave a request below and I will email you a copy.

I wonder if the Swanns I know are your Swanns! My best friend married into a Swann family...they live in Snellville,GA. Do any of these have a middle name Doss? I am on my iPad now but I will take a closer look at the pictures on my computer at home. My friend and her husband just had twins (well, they will be a year next month).
ReplyDeleteOh and welcome to the blogging world!
Suzanne
Wow! Twins! What a handful.
ReplyDeleteThat name doesn't come up with any of my Swann's, but that doesn't mean it's not a possibility. My great-grandfather, William Wesley SWANN, had a brother, John Thomas SWANN, who was married to Elizabeth "Bettie" ROSSER. I've done very little research on that line--so I am not sure. Their father was James Wesley Swann (1808-1867).
AND thanks for the Welcome and how do you like your iPad?
Hello Joan, I am Melissa Swann Meyhoefer. This is great! If you can find the time and can do me the favor, I would like a copy of the index sent to my email so I can view better and for starters a pic of Katie Nep, Matilda Green Harper Swann and Swann and Harper tents at campground. My email is meyhoefer@comcast.net. My GGG grandfather was John Swann which was James Wesley Swann and Thomas Divenney Swann brother who came in an ox cart with their mom Rosannah Short and her mother Dinah Short to settle on hwy 138 in then Henry County, now Conyers. I was interested in seeing what Matilda looked like as she was a Harper. (My granny's granny was also a Harper (Sarah Elizabeth Harper who married an Elliott and then a Smith). My granny was a Cook. (opps, digressed) My grandpa was a Swann (Howard Augustus). Howard was a younger brother to Katie Nep (Catherine Penelope Swann). Thank you so much. This will be so nice. I have been filling in my ancestry tree on ancestry.com.
ReplyDeleteopps I think John is my GG (not GGG) grandfather. Howard was my grandfather, Thomas Green Swann was my great grandfather and John Swann, my great great grandfather. I recognize many of these seem to be down John's brother, James Wesley but some are not, i.e. Katie Nep is John's granddaughter.
